Review of March Events:
Snow Sports Day @ Snoqualmie Summit (A rescheduled event from February due to weather.)
Our Troop tends to attract snow no matter when and where we go. Gig Harbor/KP had 4 inches of snow that morning, and there must have been about a foot of new snow at Snoqualmie. What a day! Our brave troop hit the mountain with ski's and snowboards to master their snow sports merit badge. That was a tough task for some boys just starting out with their first snowboarding lesson. These boys were among the bravest.. Getting up and going was no problem, stopping seemed to be the challenge. Think of a growing snowball rolling down a hill. Other boys with a few years experience under their belt of snowboarding and downhill skiing had no problem completing their MB's under our volunteer counselors of "Old Dudes on a Snowboard Rule" - Mr. Odell and "Have no fear, Let's go" Downhill skiing with Mr. Vander Poel. Mr. Burris said it had been 15 years since he skied and he still looked like a pro. Mr. Pernu missed his Nordic Cross-Country ski's, but still seemed to blaze a trail.. We even had experience with the ski patrol - thankfully, not for our guys. This was a troop adventure with stories and memories for the books. We had a great lunch break and visit with all the great troop families and boys that attended. Thanks to all our adults for lending a hand and to the wonderful spirit of all the boys that participated.
(Attending: Odell's (4), VP's (5), Mr. Burris, Pernu's (4), & snowboard kings: Jordon, Gabe, Shane, Jonathan)
Troop Annual Swim Party @ Peninsula Pool
Everything from rank requirements for 2nd and 1st class, the Swimming merit badge, and Aquanaut for our Cub Scout visitors was worked on this Saturday. Whoosh! The scouts that were working on their swimming merit badge still have a bit to complete. We will offer another date to complete the badge. Currently looking into Friday, March 27th, 7:30 - 9:00 at Peninsula Pool. Cost: $3.00 per person. Thanks to all our fantastic volunteers: Mr. Burris, Mr. Odell, Mr. Johnson, Mrs. Barry, and scouts - Scott, Michael, and Evan all in the pool, and Samara, Darren Hanson, & Cheryl Pernu helping out with the ice cream social on deck. (Scouts attending: Scott, Michael, Jordon, Gabe, Ryan, Jonathan, Kyle, Conrad, Brian, Dillon, Kelson, Kevin, Shane) Welcome: Collin Pernu & Kevin Gawler - our Webelos visitors.
Citizen of the Year Banquet @ KPCC
Set-up tables & chairs (noon-1:15)
Thanks to all the 11 scouts, 2 siblings, and 9 adults that helped set-up tables and chairs for the Lions Club Annual Citizen of the Year Banquet this last Saturday night! Thanks for the great turn out!
(Scouts attending: Jonathan, Dillon, Scott, Michael, Evan, Shane, Brian, Kelson, Ryan, Jordon, Gabe)
Flag Ceremony (6:00 - 7:00)
Thanks to some great scouts that basically devoted their whole day to scouting between the COY Banquet and the swim party. The Flag presentation team did an inspiring job representing Troop 220 at the evening banquet. Thanks for all your hard work! (Scouts attending: Shane, Scott, Jordon, Michael, Evan, Dillon, Luke, Ryan)
Let's Celebrate Mr. Burris! (Citizen of the Year Banquet con't)
Mr. Burris is not one to want any attention drawn to him, but here is just a little. Mark was nominated as Citizen of the Year for all that he does with Troop 220, along with his volunteer work on homes of victims from the last two floods in Washington, and offering his skills to a local church over the last several years to name a few. Mark and several other community volunteers were honored by the Lions Club and the people of the Kitsap Peninsula this last Saturday. The evening was filled with the comradery of the community and good friends as Scott, Luke, the Vander Poel's and the Odell's joined Mark for dinner and an enjoyable evening. Thanks Mark for ALL you do!!! We are very grateful.
