COOKING

Cooking is an essential part of the camping experience. More often than not, cooking in the outdoors is one of the first experiences the Scout has with cooking and preparing meals. Even if they do have some experience with cooking at home, cookin in the outdoors on small gas stoves is a whole new experience.

When cooking with Troop 220, the following procedures must be in place:

  1. Cook with low heat. High heat burns food, ruins the Teflon coating on ht epans, and burns food to the pots.
  2. Cooks should be using as few pots and pans as possible. One-pot meals are the goal. There is less cleanup and the extra pots can be used to get cleanup water boiling.
  3. Whenever a pot is on a stove, a cook must be present.
  4. Only the cooks should be in the kitchen, excepting those times a KP Scout's presence is needed.
  5. Generally the adults eat with the Scouts. There may be times when the adults eat separately, but this will be pre-arranged.
  6. All cooks must wash hands before cooking.
