STOVES AND FUELS

We have three types of backpacking stoves in use in our troop: the Coleman Peak 1 stove, the Whisperlite, and the Optimus. Each stove is lit and operated differently. The following basic procedures are in place:
  1. Each Scout must be trained in the use of the stoves before they are allowed to use them.
  2. Fueling must be done away from open flames and only after the stove has cooled.
  3. Fuels are not to be used for anything but for the stoves.
  4. Stoves should be turned off (or on low, if cookin is continuing) when not in use.
  5. Matches are not toys to be played with.
  6. When not in use, fuel bottles are kept by the Scoutmaster.

For more information on Troop 200 cooking, see the cooking page.
